• The Short Story: The 15th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to 21st-ranked Skidmore Saturday morning in Fredericksburg.
How it Happened
• Skidmore jumped out to a 3-0 lead by sweeping the doubles matches. Risa Fukushige and Ada Wiggins edged freshman Anjie Kashyap and sophomore Sophia Strickland, 8-6, at first doubles. Alexa Goldberg and Jessica Ampel won by the same score over junior Katie Gauch and freshman Margo Gerke at third. Renee Karchere-Sun and Michelle Fuca beat junior Kimberly Zou and freshman Dhanya Asokumar, 8-4, at second.
• The Blue Jays and the Thoroughbreds then split the singles matches as the Blue Jays' rally fell just short. Kashyap beat Wiggins 6-4, 6-3 at first while Fukushige beat Strickland 6-3, 6-2 at second.
• Karchere-Sun came from behind to beat Zou 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 at third and Fuca was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Asokumar at fourth.
• Gauch grabbed a come-from-behind win over Laura Swenson 6-7 (9), 6-2, 1-0 (7) at fifth. Junior Chrissy Simon dropped just two games in her win over Jackie Ahn at sixth.
What it Means
• Hopkins suffers its first loss to Skidmore, slipping to 2-1 all-time.
