Johns Hopkins Shuts Out Dickinson in Centennial Opener

• The Short Story: The 15th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team picked up its first win of the season in a 9-0 win over visiting Dickinson in both teams' Centennial Conference opener Saturday.

How it Happened
• Hopkins lost just five games in doubles play as the Blue Jays jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the match. Sophomore Sophia Strickland and freshman Anjie Kashyap won 8-4 at first over Lauren Altschuler and Hanna Butler.
• Junior Katie Gauch and freshman Margo Gerke lost just one game as they defeated Lexi Epstein and Emily Sprague at second. Junior Chrissy Simon and freshman Dhanya Asokumar did one better as they needed just eight games to beat Kristen Brodeen and Julia Poster.
• Hopkins then swept the singles matches to complete the shutout of Dickinson. Kashyap was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Butler at first to make it a 4-0 match. Strickland also dropped just three games as she beat Epstein 6-0, 6-3 at second.
• Asokumar clinched the win for the Blue Jays with a 6-2, 6-0 win at third over Sprague. With the match clinched, the final three matches were played in a pro-set format. Gauch did not lose a game as she beat Elisa Varlotta at fifth, 8-0.
• Simon and Gerke each grabbed 8-2 wins at fifth and sixth, respectively, over Brodeen and Poster.

What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 23-10 all-time against Dickinson and has won 20 straight in the series.

• Hopkins returns to action on Tuesday, March 27 as the Blue Jays host the Gettysburg Bullets at 4:00 pm.
