• The Short Story: The 20th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team earned a 9-0 win at host Washington College on Tuesday afternoon to remain unbeaten in conference play.
How it Happened
• Hopkins jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a sweep of doubles. Juniors Katie Gauch and Kimberly Zou earned the first point of the match with an 8-2 win over Krista Filiopoulos and Sarah Bruno at second.
• Junior Chrissy Simon and freshman Sabrina Abrams then beat Ella Samer and Riley Katzman, 8-3, at second. Sophomore Sophia Strickland and freshman Anjie Kashyap closed out doubles with an 8-6 victory at first over Julie Lazer and Rachel Martinez.
• The Blue Jays then swept the singles matches to complete the shutout of the Shorewomen. Zou lost just one game as she rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Filiopoulos at third. Strickland then clinched the Blue Jays' win when she beat Martinez 7-6 (2), 6-1 at second. Gauch followed with a come-from-behind win over Samer at fourth. After dropping the first set, 6-2, Gauch rallied to win the second, 6-1, and then the third in a tiebreaker, 10-4.
• Kashyap picked up a three-set win at first over Lazer 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (7) to make it a 7-0 match. Simon then defeated Bruno 6-3, 6-1 at fifth and Abrams closed out the match when she beat Kiran Pant 8-4 at sixth.
What it Means
• Hopkins wins its 18th straight over Washington College and improves to 25-11 all-time in the series.
• The Blue Jays run their regular season conference win streak to 119 matches.
• The win sets up a showdown with Swarthmore in the regular season finale. The winner of the match will be the regular season Centennial Conference champion and top seed in the conference tournament.
