Johns Hopkins Bests Haverford for 12th Centennial Championship

• The Short Story: The 23rd-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team beat visiting Haverford, 5-0, to win its 12th straight Centennial Conference Championship Sunday morning.

How it Happened
• Hopkins swept the doubles matches to jump out to a 3-0 lead in the championship match. Freshman Anjie Kashyap and sophomore Sophia Strickland grabbed the first point of the match when they beat Julia Gan and Greta Koch, 8-3, at first.
• Junior Katie Gauch and freshman Margo Gerke won by the same score at third over Clara Farrehi and Natalie Williams to give the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead. Freshman Dhanya Asokumar and junior Kimberly Zou completed the sweep, also winning by an 8-3 score, over Jane Bary and Emily Shutman at second.
• Needing just two wins to grab the trophy, it was a race to the finish on three courts for the Blue Jays. Kashyap did not drop a game as she defeated Gan at first singles to put Hopkins up 4-0. Gerke then clinched the win and the championship as she won without losing a game at sixth over Sam Berg. Strickland won her first set, 6-1, and was up 5-0 in the second, and had match point when then match was called.

• Hopkins improves to 25-7 all-time against Haverford and has won 24 straight matches in the series The Blue Jays are also 8-0 against the Fords in the Centennial Conference Tournament.
• Hopkins is now 24-1 in the Centennial Conference Tournament and has won 12 straight championships.
• Gauch was named the Tournament MVP for the Blue Jays after winning both her doubles matches and her semifinal singles match.
