LANCASTER, PA – The Johns Hopkins women's outdoor track & field team has been picked once again as the favorite to win the Centennial Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships in May. The conference releases the preseason poll today, which is voted on by the league's coaches, and Hopkins earned all nine first-place votes for a total of 81 points. Swarthmore earned the remaining first-place vote and finished with 70 points. The Garnet finished second to Hopkins last season. Rounding out the top five are Dickinson (66 pts.), Haverford (57 pts.) and Ursinus (47 pts.).
The Blue Jays won their ninth straight title last season, defeating the Garnet by 116 points last season, totaling 237.50 total points over the three-day meet.
JHU returns the conference track athlete of the year in
Maya Hammonds, who earned first team honors in the 100-meter dash, and also earned second team honors in four other events.
Erin Brush,
Ellie Clawson,
Felicia Koerner,
Lauren Jacob and
Mikayla Bisignani also earned first team laurels last year for Hopkins. Also returning for JHU this season are second teamers
Therese Olshanski and
Annie Gutierrez along with
Marisa Sailus,
Alexandra Damron,
Rebecca Grusby,
Sophia Cortazzo and
Catharine Wain who all earned honorable mention.
Johns Hopkins opens up the 2019 outdoor campaign on Friday, March 29 at the Fred Hardy Invitational.
