The Game
«  Johns Hopkins (6-6, 2-2 B1G) closes the regular season as the Blue Jays travel to College Park to take on second-ranked Maryland (11-2, 3-1 B1G) in the 118th installment of the greatest rivalry in college lacrosse.
«  Johns Hopkins is coming off a 20-9 loss at top-ranked Penn State last Sunday.

The Facts
«  This is the 132nd season of Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse.  JHU first fielded a team in 1883.
«  Johns Hopkins enters this week's game with an all-time record of 989-340-15.
«  JHU owns 44 national championships with nine NCAA titles, 29 USILA titles and six ILA crowns to its credit.

Poll Position
«  Johns Hopkins is ranked 20th in this week's USILA Coaches Poll and is receiving votes in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.  These are the two official in-season polls conducted throughout the regular season.]
«  Maryland is the unanimous number-two team in the nation as the Terrapins are ranked second in this week's USILA Coaches Poll and second in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.  Both complete polls can be found on page 12.

Series History
«  This week's game will be the 118th game in a series that dates to a 10-0 Johns Hopkins win in 1895.
«  JHU leads the all-time series 72-44-1 after the teams split a pair of games last season.  Maryland claimed an 8-7 triple overtime win in the regular season, while the Blue Jays grabbed a 13-10 win in the rematch a week later in the B1G Championship game.
«  In an odd twist, the visiting team has won six of the last eight regular season games dating back to 2011.

B1G Tournament - What We Know
«  Entering this week's action, three teams have clinched berths in the upcoming B1G Tournament (Penn State, Maryland, Rutgers) with Johns Hopkins and Ohio State in contention for the fourth and final spot in the tournament.
«  Penn State has clinched the top seed in the tournament.
«  Maryland secures the #2 seed with a win against JHU.  Maryland plays in the two-three game in every scenario that could play out this weekend..
«  Rutgers will play in the two-three game with a win coupled with a Maryland win against Johns Hopkins.  In every other scenario, Rutgers will be the #4 seed and play Penn State in the semifinals.
«  Johns Hopkins clinches a spot with a win on Saturday or a loss by Ohio State or Rutgers.  The only scenario where the Blue Jays don't make the tournament is with a loss coupled with wins by Ohio State and Rutgers.  In short, a two-way tie for fourth place between JHU and OSU goes to the Buckeyes.
«  Ohio State can only make the tournament with a win coupled with wins by Maryland and Rutgers.  There is no other scenario where the Buckeyes make the tournament.
«  Michigan has been eliminated from contention for a berth in the tournament.

On This Date
«  This week's game against Maryland will be Johns Hopkins' 12th game on April 27th since 1955 (dates for games prior to 1955 not all available).  The Blue Jays are 9-2 in the previous 11 games played on this date.
«  Among the notable efforts on this date are a 24-10 win over Navy in 1985 (current volunteer assistant coach Larry Quinn was JHU's starting goalie that day).

At Maryland Stadium
«  Johns Hopkins is 8-1 in its last nine games played at Maryland Stadium.  The Blue Jays topped Maryland here in 2003, 2005, 2007, 2011, 2013 and 2015 and won a pair of games in the B1G Tournament in 2015.   JHU fell to Maryland, 12-5, in its last trip to Maryland Stadium.

For What It's Worth
«  This week's game will be JHU's 13th game of the season. Not including their games against JHU, the Blue Jays' first 12 opponents are a combined 93-47 (.664) through games of April 23. That ranks as the second-best opponent winning percentage in the nation. 
«  Johns Hopkins' 13 regular season opponents are currently a combined 104-49 (.680).  That ranks as the highest opponent win percentage in the nation.

Doing the Little Things
« In the last nine games, JHU is 167-of-195 (.856) on clears and has won 158-of-269 (.587) faceoffs.  This is a big improvement from the Blue Jays' first two games of the season, when they were 28-of-40 (.700) on clears and 25-of-61 (.417) on faceoffs in losses to Towson and Loyola.

Lending a Hand
«  Through 12 games, 86 of Johns Hopkins' 140 goals have been assisted ... that's 61.4%.  By comparison, JHU collected assists on 62.3% of its goals last season.
«  For the record, the last time Johns Hopkins assisted on better than 65% of its goals for an entire season was in 2003, when the Blue Jays totaled 151 assists on 224 goals (67.4%).

Spreading it Around
«  Johns Hopkins has 18 different goal-scorers and 23 different players have registered at least one point through 12 games.
«  By comparison, Maryland has 14 players who have scored at least one goal and 16 players have registered at least one point for the Terps.

«  Johns Hopkins was held to nine goals in last week's loss at top-ranked Penn State.  This snapped a streak of 10 straight games in which the Blue Jays had scored 10+ goals and a run of six consecutive games with 11+.

Non-Offensive Scoring
«  With the addition of a shot clock this season, the pace of play has quickened and has resulted in more transition lacrosse.  This has resulted in more scoring for Johns Hopkins' non-offensive players.
«  Through 12 games, non-offensive players  (defensemen, long & short-stick defensive middies, faceoff specialists & goalies) have accumulated 11 goals and 19 assists (30 points) for the Blue Jays.
«  By comparison, in 17 games last season, the Blue Jays' non-offensive players totaled 10 goals and 7 assists (17 points).
« JHU's non-offensive players have combined for 27 points (10g, 17a) in the last 10 games - an average of nearly three points per game.  They combined for three goals and three assists in the 11-10 win at North Carolina and two goals and three assists in the wins over Princeton and Rutgers.

Winningest Program in Lacrosse History
« Johns Hopkins enters this week's game against Maryland with an all-time record of 989-340-15 to rank as the all-time winningest program in college lacrosse history.
«  JHU is one of just seven schools with 700+ victories, one of just four with 800+ wins and one of two that has won 900 or more games.

Pietramala Sixth in Wins Among Active Head Coaches
«  Johns Hopkins head coach Dave Pietramala enters this week's game ranked sixth among active Division I head coaches in career victories with 226.
«  Including his time at Cornell, Pietramala sports a career record of 226-104 (.685).  His mark at Johns Hopkins currently stands a 203-87 (.700).

In Case We Get There
«  Johns Hopkins is 27-16 (.628) in overtime under the direction of head coach Dave Pietramala.  JHU's last overtime game came in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament, when the Blue Jays topped Georgetown, 10-9.
«  Johns Hopkins has won seven of its last 10 overtime games.

One-Goal Wonders
«  Including the 14-13 loss to Ohio State on April 14, Johns Hopkins is 56-27 (.675) in one-goal games under head coach Dave Pietramala.
