David Tammaro (
Chantilly, VA/Chantilly) has been named a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation's 2019 William V. Campbell Trophy, presented by Mazda. From the 185 semifinalists named, the NFF will announce 12-14 finalists on October 30, and each finalist will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2019 National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Class presented by Fidelity Investments.

Tammaro is one of 49 semifinalists from an NCAA Division III program and one of five from the Centennial Conference as Franklin & Marshall's Matthew Hamby, Juniata's Austin Montgomery, Moravian's Sal Pagano and Susquehanna's Mitch Carsley join Tammaro on the impressive list.

John Arena, who played at Johns Hopkins from 2010-13, is the only player in school or Centennial Conference history who has been named to the NFF Scholar-Athlete Class. Â Arena used his $18,000 postgraduate scholarship to attend medical school at the University of Pennsylvania.

The 2019 finalists will travel to New York City for the 62nd NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 10, where their accomplishments will be highlighted in front of one of the most powerful audiences in all of sports. At the event, one member of the class will be declared the winner of the 30th William V. Campbell Trophy and have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000.

Tammaro earned Second Team CoSIDA Acadmeic All-America and Second Team D3football.com All-America honors last season, when he was also named the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Centennial. Â Â He was one of just four Division III players in the nation to earn All-America and Academic All-America honors in 2018.

The only Division III quarterback to throw for more than 4,000 yards last season, Tammaro ranks among the top three in every career passing category at Johns Hopkins as he is 623-of-965 (.646) for 8,035 yards with 66 touchdown passes against just 12 interceptions. He has also rushed for 687 yards and 15 touchdowns in his career and broke the Johns Hopkins record for career touchdowns responsible for with his 81
st in last week's 41-0 win against Moravian.

Tammaro, who is double-majoring in applied mathematics/statistics and economics, has been actively involved in the Johns Hopkins football "Be The Match" bone marrow drive throughout his career. He served as a Venture Capital Analyst last summer at Greenspring Associates and as a research analyst in the Johns Hopkins Institute for Applied Economics in 2018. He has also been the Vice President of the Johns Hopkins Financial Analysts Club and the Treasurer of Alpha Delta Phi Society since 2017.

Named in honor of the lateÂ
Bill Campbell, former chairman of Intuit, former player and head coach at Columbia University and the 2004 recipient of the NFF's Gold Medal, the Campbell Trophy® Presented by Mazda is a 25-pound bronze trophy and increases the amount of the recipient's grant by $7,000 for a total postgraduate scholarship of $25,000. This year's postgraduate scholarships will push the program's all-time distribution to more than $11.7 million.

Nominated by their schools, which are limited to one nominee each, candidates for the awards must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of playing eligibility, have a GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, have outstanding football ability as a first team player or significant contributor and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship. The class is selected each year by the NFF Awards Committee, which is comprised of a nationally recognized group of media, College Football Hall of Famers and athletics administrators.
