6/24/2020 3:23:00 PM

BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse coach Janine Tucker announced the addition of Kristen Carr to the Blue Jays' coaching staff today. Carr brings 10 years of coaching experience to Homewood and will run the offense as well as work with the center draw specialists.

"I couldn't be more thrilled to welcome Kristen into our Blue Jay family," Tucker said. "She is a veteran coach who has had her hands in every aspect of the game. Her passion, creativity and versatility will make an immediate impact on our program - specifically our offensive unit and center draw specialists. One of the most well-respected assistant coaches in the game, Kristen has also left her mark on the US women's national team. She blew us away in the interview process and our players are going to love learning from her."

Carr takes over for Steele Stanwick, who stepped down in May to pursue an opportunity outside of coaching. She comes to the Blue Jays after a one-year stint at Ohio State, where she served as the defensive coordinator as well as recruiting coordinator. Prior to her move to Columbus, Carr spent four seasons with the Stanford Cardinal, helping them to a 55-22 record including the 2018 PAC-12 Championship and three NCAA Tournament appearances.

"I want to thank Head Coach Janine Tucker and Johns Hopkins University for the opportunity to join the Blue Jays family," noted Carr. "The energy surrounding Hopkins Lacrosse is contagious and I am excited and grateful to serve as the next assistant coach. Hopkins lacrosse is rich in tradition and I am humbled to take part in continuing to build this legacy. I also want to take the time to thank Amy Bokker and The Ohio State athletic department. With the mentorship and leadership gained, I know I am well equipped to take on this next step in my coaching journey. "

A 2010 graduate of the University of North Carolina, Carr earned First Team IWLCA All-America honors as a senior when she led the nation's third-ranked defense (7.25 goals per game). She graduated as the program's leader in draws in a season (64) and career (174). A three-year starter, Carr helped the Tar Heels to a 62-20 record and four NCAA Tournament appearances, including a pair of Final Four trips. She has been a starting defender on the US National Team since 2008 and won gold medals at the 2013 and 2017 FIL World Cups. In addition, she plays for the Pride of the Women's Professional Lacrosse League (WPLL).

Carr began her coaching career at her alma mater as a volunteer assistant. She then spent three seasons as the offensive coordinator at the University of Delaware. Carr then moved to the West Coast, where she took over as the recruiting and defensive coordinator at Stanford.

A Baltimore native, Carr is a graduate of Mercy High School, where she was a three-sport star in lacrosse, soccer and basketball. She is also the cousin of former Blue Jay standouts Paige '10 and Miranda '19 Ibello.
