Reyes Claims Title at 165, Blue Jays Ninth at Racich Rumble

Senior Goes 4-0 to Claim Individual Title

COLLEGEVILLE, PA - Senior Dominick Reyes won the individual title at 165 pounds the Johns Hopkins wrestling team earned 85 points to placed ninth in the 14-team Racich Rumble at Ursinus on Saturday.  NYU claimed the team title with 177 points.

Reyes Claims Gold
Reyes, the NWCA's number three ranked 165-pounder in the nation, scored three consecutive major decision to move into the title bout.  The third of those three was a 14-4 win over NYU's Cooper Pontelandolfo in the semifinals.  He then capped his day with a 5-2 in the finals against Alvernia's Matt Lackman to earn his first-place finish.  Reyes improved his career record to 90-24 with his four wins today and extended his school-record winning streak to 28 matches.

Paul Second at 174
Senior Joe Paul was seeded second and advanced to the final before falling to top-seeded Jason Geyer of NYU (9-0).  Paul used a technical fall and a pair of decisions, including a 5-3 semifinal win over Delaware Valley's Youssef Ait Boulahri to move into the title bout.

Lorin Grabs Fourth at 125
Junior Brent Lorin was Hopkins' third top-four finisher as placed fourth at 125.  Lorin open with a pair of wins by decision before being bounced to the consolation bracket by eventual champion Jared Kuhns of York.  In the consolation bracket, he picked up three wins, including two by decision and one by a medical forfeit, to move into the consolation final, where he dropped a hard-fought 6-5 decision to Alvernia's Keito Shaw

In the first action of his career, Chris Roybal (157) went 3-2 and picked up two bonus point victories • Colin Vallis (174) picked up the first win of his career with a 36-second pin in his first bout of the day • Fritz Maurath (157) won three-of-five matches on the day with two pins and a decision • Grant Walnoha (174) went 2-2 with a 37-second pin to his credit • Hank Behaeghel (285) went 3-2 on the day with a pair of pins • Mike Massa (197) went 3-2 on the day at 197.
