BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins field hockey seniors
Abby Birk and
Maddie Brown-Scherer have been named to the 2021 NFHCA Division III Senior Team. Hopkins has had at least one student-athlete named to the Senior Team/Senior All-Star game in each of the last three seasons.
The selected student-athletes were nominated by their NFHCA member coach and were chosen based on their career accomplishments. The members of the 2021 Division III Senior Team were initially announced during
a live video presentation featuring member coaches on Monday afternoon. In lieu of the traditional coach-led trophy presentation at the NFHCA Senior Games — which were cancelled due to limitations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic — coaches were given the opportunity to announce the name of their Senior Team honoree(s).
Birk, a First Team All-Centennial Conference selection, ranks second on the team in goals (10), assists (10) and points (30). She is the program's all-time assist leader with 34 in her career and she also ranks fifth in school history in points (90) and 10
th in goals (28). Birk is the first player in program history with two 10-goal, 10-assist seasons. She is also the first player in program history with two 10-assist seasons.
Brown-Scherer was named the Centennial Conference Player of the Year and leads the Blue Jays with 13 goals, 11 assists and 37 points. She has notched at least one point in 16 of the Blue Jays' 21 games this season. Brown-Scherer is tied for seventh in school history in points (82), tied for eighth in goals (29) and tied for fourth in assists (24).
