BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins placed three players on the 2021 NFHCA All-Region V Team it was announced today. Seniors
Abby Birk and
Maddie Brown-Scherer and junior
Anna Scott all earned first team honors.
This is the first time since 2008, and just the second time ever, that JHU had three first team all-region players. Hopkins has now produced 64 all-region selections, including 14 under fifth-year head coach
Jane Wells. The trio led Hopkins to a 22-1 record and its first-ever appearance in the national championship game in 2021.
Birk earns all-region honors for the third time in her career, after earning second team honors in 2018 and first team in 2019. She ranks second on the team in goals (11), assists (10) and points (32) this season. A three-time All-Centennial Conference selection and 2019 All-American, Birk is the program's all-time assist leader with 34. She is also tied for fourth in school history in career points (92) and tied for eighth in career goals (29).
Brown-Scherer picks up her second consecutive all-region honors after earning second team honors in 2019.S She earned Centennial Conference Player of the Year honors after leading the Blue Jays with career highs in goals (13), assists (11) and points (37). Brown-Scherer led the Centennial Conference in points and is tied for first in assists. She is tied for seventh in career points (82), tied for eighth in goals (29) and tied for fourth in assists (24).
Scott earns all-region honors for the first time in her career and is the first Blue Jay defender to do so since 2013. A First Team All-Centennial Conference honoree, she led a Blue Jay defense that led the nation with 14 shutouts and ranked fifth in goals against average (0.74). In addition, the Hopkins defense allowed just 6.3 shots per game, including only 3.5 shots on goal per game. Scott tallied four goals, four assists and a team-best four defensive saves this season.
