BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins senior wrestler
Dominick Reyes (165) will open the 2021-22 season on Saturday, November 6 at the Messiah Invitational with a pair of individual preseason national rankings to his credit, while three of his teammates, seniors
Hank Behaeghel (285) and
Joe Paul (174) and junior
Brent Lorin (125) regional rankings to their credit.
Â
Reyes is ranked third at 165 by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) and sixth by D3wrestle.com. He is also ranked number one in the NWCA Mideast Regional Rankings; this is the first time the NWCA has released regional rankings.
Â
Reyes posted a 34-2 record and won Centennial Conference and NCAA Southeast Regional titles in 2019-20 before the COVID 19 pandemic canceled the 2020 NCAA Championships. He closed what was his junior year with a 24-match winning streak and will carry an 86-24 career record into his final season. In all, 56 of his 86 career wins have earned bonus points as he counts 30 pins, 15 major decisions and 11 technical falls to his credit.
Â
Behaeghel is ranked third by the NWCA in the Mideast Region. He posted a 15-16 record in 2019-20 and came within one victory of qualifying for the NCAA Championships with a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Regional Championships. He also placed second at the Centennial Championships that year
Â
Paul made the jump to 174 in 2019-20 (after wrestling at 149 in 2018-19) and responded by posting a 30-17 record with 13 bonus-point wins to his credit (7 pins / 6 major decisions). He drew the number three ranking in the Mideast Region from the NWCA after counting a fourth-place finish at the Centennial Championships and a seventh-place showing at the regional championships to his credit two years ago.
Â
Lorin closes out Johns Hopkins' representatives in the NWCA Regional rankings as he checks in at number four at 125. Lorin enjoyed a strong freshman campaign in 2019-20 as he finished the season with a 20-11 record that included eight pins, two majors and one tech fall. He suffered a season-ending injury just prior to the Centennial Conference Championships and was not able to participate in any post-season tournaments.
