Johns Hopkins-Maryland Men's Lacrosse Notes

For the 120th Time, It's Hopkins-Maryland

The Game
•  Johns Hopkins hits the road for the second consecutive week as the Blue Jays (1-1) head to College Park to take on Maryland (2-0) in the 120th renewal of the greatest rivalry in college lacrosse.

Last Time Out
• The Blue Jays picked up their first win of the season as they went on the road and topped Michigan, 14-7, last Saturday in Ann Arbor.
• Maryland improved to 2-0 on the year with a dominating 13-7 win at Penn State last Friday night.

The Facts
•  This is the 134th season of Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse.  JHU first fielded a team in 1883.
•  Johns Hopkins enters this week's game with an all-time record of 994-347-15.
•  JHU owns 44 national championships with nine NCAA titles, 29 USILA titles and six ILA crowns to its credit.

Poll Position
•  Johns Hopkins is ranked 20th in this week's USILA Coaches Poll and is receiving votes in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.
• Maryland is ranked third in both the USILA Coaches Poll and the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.

Series History
• This week's game will be the 120th all-time between Johns Hopkins and Maryland.
• The Blue Jays lead the all-time series 74-44-1 and have won three consecutive games against the Terps dating back to the 2018 Big Ten Championship game.
• This week's game is the earliest Johns Hopkins and Maryland have ever met in a season.  Previously, the earliest date on record for a Hopkins-Maryland game is April 11 (1998, 2009).
• This will be Johns Hopkins' third game against Maryland in its last 13 games dating back to late in the 2019 season and its fifth against the Terps in its last 30 games dating back to late in the 2018 season.

On This Date
•  This week's game at Maryland will be the ninth game Johns Hopkins has played on March 6.
• The Blue Jays are 5-3 all-time in games played on March 6 with four of the previous eight being played against Princeton.

At Maryland Stadium
•  Johns Hopkins is 9-1 in its last 10 games played at Maryland Stadium.  The Blue Jays topped Maryland here in 2003, 2005, 2007, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2019 and won a pair of games in the B1G Tournament in 2015.   JHU fell to Maryland, 12-5, in 2017 at Maryland Stadium.

Odd, But True
•  This week's game will mark just the second time since 1999 that Johns Hopkins and Maryland play a regular season day game at Maryland Stadium.
• Starting in 1999, the Blue Jays and Terps  played under the lights in College Park in 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2017 and 2019.
• In the only Hopkins-Maryland day game in College Park during that time, the 15th-ranked Blue Jays beat then top-ranked Maryland, 7-4, in 2013.

Offense Clicks at Michigan
• After scoring a total of nine goals in the first five quarters of the season, the Blue Jay offense found its groove in the second and third quarters a Michigan.
• The Blue Jays scored five goals in the second period and six in the third against the Wolverines.  That marked the first time JHU had scored 5+ goals in back-to-back quarters since the 2019 Big Ten Championship game against Penn State, when they scored six in the first quarter and five in the second.
• After scoring their first nine goals of the season on 34 shots (.265 shooting percentage), the Blue Jays scored 13 goals in the final three quarters at Michigan on 31 shots (.419).

Extra-Extra
• Johns Hopkins cashed in on all four of its extra-man chances at Michigan and his now 4-of-5 (.800) on the year.
• The four extra-man goals are the most for JHU since the Jays had six in the 2019 Big Ten Championship game against Penn State.
• The effort at Michigan marked the 18th time since 2003 that Johns Hopkins has scored four or more extra-man goals in a game.
