Alex Ross and
Annie Gutierrez were named Centennial Conference Track & Field Athletes of the Week it was announced earlier today. This is the second straight week the Blue Jays have swept the awards and they have now won five of the last six.
Ross, a first-time Centennial Athlete of the Week honoree, ran the sixth-fastest 10,000 time in program history on Friday night at the Virginia Challenge. The junior finished the race in 35:14.74, ranking second nationally in Division III and qualifying her for NCAA's.
For Gutierrez, this will be her fourth Centennial Conference Athlete of the Week honor. The senior totaled 4,613 points in the heptathlon, a personal-best. The Florida native set new PR's in the 200 (26.69), 800 (2:26.63), long jump (5.38m), high jump (1.59m) and 100 hurdles where she broke the program record with a time of 14.73. th nationally in the heptathlon, 13
th in the 100 hurdles, 22
nd in the pole vault, 43
rd in the long jump and 49
th in the high jump.
The Blue Jays will compete at Gettysburg this weekend in the Gettysburg Invitational.
