Seven Blue Jay Women Qualify For NCAA Championships

Ella Baran, Annie Gutierrez and Alex Ross lead a group of seven Blue Jay women who will compete at the NCAA Championships in Greensboro, NC this upcoming week. The Championships will take place at Irwin Belk Track from May 27-29. 

Baran is the first of three Blue Jays who will compete in multiple events this upcoming week. A junior out of Plymouth, MN, Baran earned the number-two seed in the 1,500 after breaking the Centennial Conference Meet Record with a time of 4:26.10 on May 1st. Baran will also run in the 5,000 after qualifying as the fourth seed. Baran clocked a time of 16:40.85 to qualify. 

Ross will join Baran in the 5,000 and will compete in the 10,000 for the Blue Jays. A junior out of Glastonbury, CT, Ross qualified as the 15-seed in the 5,000 with a time of 17:11.35. Ross will enter NCAA's as a top-five seed in the 10,000 after posting a time of 35:14.74 at the Virginia Challenge. 

A senior out of Coral Gables, FL, Gutierrez will return to NCAA's to compete in the pole vault and the heptathlon. Gutierrez is the six-seed in the pole vault after recently breaking her own program-record with a 3.82m vault. Gutierrez qualifies as the 10th seed in the heptathlon after posting the second-best score in program history with 4,613 points at the Hopkins/Loyola Invitational. 

Veronica Montane, Victoria Kadiri, Therese Olshanski and Ariel Keklak will all compete in one event for the Blue Jays in Greensboro.

Montane will return to NCAA's hoping to match her second-place finish in 2019. Montane enters NCAA's as the 11th-seed after a 42.56m throw in the Towson Invitational to open the season. Kadiri, a freshman, will make her NCAA debut in the long jump after posting a JHU freshman-record leap of 5.81m to earn the sixth seed in the event. Olshanski and Keklak will both join Baran in the 1,500 after competing in the 2019 NCAA Championships. Olshanski earned the number three seed while Keklak comes in as the number five qualifier. Olshanski's qualifying time was 4:29.75 while Keklak posted a time of 4:31.57.
