WAYNESBURG, PA – Johns Hopkins seniors Dominick Reyes (165) and Joe Paul (174) won individual titles and the Blue Jay wrestling team accumulated 79.5 points to place fourth at the 12-team Waynesburg Invitational on Saturday.
 
Delaware Valley claimed the team title with 153 points, while Heidelberg (120), Washington & Jefferson (108.5), Johns Hopkins and Alderson Broaddus (70.5) rounded out the top five in the team scoring.

HOW IT HAPPENED

 
Reyes Eases to Sixth Career In-Season Tournament Title
Reyes, who is currently ranked third in the nation at 165, won his sixth career in-season tournament title with a perfect 4-0 record on the day; all four wins earned bonus points for the Blue Jays.
 
Reyes needed less than five total minutes to move into the title match as he picked up first-period pins against Heidelberg's Montavious Yearby (2:02), Delaware Valley's Cooper Kidd (1:57) and Fairmont State's Cade Moisey (0:48).  In the final, he drew Tommy Mabry of Rio Grande and eased to a 17-2 second-period technical fall victory to secure his title.
 
The four wins today boost Reyes' career record to 98-24 and leave him two wins shy of becoming just the second wrestler in school history to reach 100 career wins (Paul Bewek (135 / 2012-15)).  Reyes also extended his school-record winning streak to 36 dating back to the 2019-20 season.
 
In addition to slipping past Eric Fishel (95 / 2004-08) into second on JHU's career victories list, Reyes also broke Ricky Cavallo's JHU record for career wins by technical fall with his 14^th and his three pins give him 34 in his career, which leaves him just one shy of Fishel's JHU career record of 35.
 
Paul Earns Second Career Tournament Title
Paul picked up his second career in-season tournament title as he posted a 4-0 record with three wins by decision and one by pin.
 
Paul opened his day with a first-period pin against Washington & Jefferson's Raheem Clemons (1:48) in the round of 16 and then topped TJ Rhamy of Heidelberg, 7-3, in the quarterfinals.  He then edged top-seeded Yousseff Ait Boulahri of Delaware Valley, 5-2, in the semifinals.
 
In the title bout, Paul drew Washington & Jefferson's Jaden Datz and the two battled to a 4-4 tie through regulation.  Midway through the first sudden death overtime period, Paul snapped Datz down and spun behind for the match and title-winning takedown.
 
Four Others Place in Top Six
In addition to the individual titles from Reyes and Paul, the Blue Jays also got place-winning efforts from several other individuals:
 
Jared Osbourne (165) nearly made it an all-Hopkins title bout at 165 as he advanced to the semifinals before dropping a 7-6 decision to Mabry and eventually placed fifth.  Osbourne posted a 3-2 record on the day with two wins by decision and one forfeit.
 
John Libby and Elliott Lee (184) placed fifth and sixth, respectively, at 184.  Libby advanced to the semifinals before falling to the eventual champion and posted a 3-2 record that included one pin and one technical fall.  Lee counted two pins to his credit as he went 2-3 on the day to place sixth.
 
Senior Hank Behaeghel (285) went 3-1 with all three of his wins by pin.  He scored his three wins in succession to open his day before falling, 10-4, to eventual champion Jace Grossman (Heidelberg) in the semifinals.  He was forced to withdraw due to injury after the semifinals and finished sixth overall.
 
Bonus Boys
The Blue Jays did not have entries at 125 or 133, but crafted their fourth-place finish on the strength of their six place-winners and a remarkable 13 bonus-point wins on the day.  Included among the 13 were 11 pins and two wins by technical fall.

The Blue Jays will return to action on January 14-15 when they compete at the Virginia Duals.
