BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins men's swim team won three of the final six swimming events at the Thomas Murphy Invitational.
Junior
Kellen Roddy grabbed first place in the 1650 Free as he beat the field by nearly 32 seconds. He touched with an NCAA B time of 15:34.10. Freshman
Matthew Hartshorn took fourth place and also turned in an NCAA B time of 16:14.98. Sophomore
Daniel Byrnes finished in seventh (16:25.06) and classmate
Jonik Surprenant followed in eighth (16:32.06).
Freshman
Bryce Lloyd then placed second in the 200 Back in 1:48.79 while senior
Steven Rua placed third (1:49.86). Both their times are NCAA B times. Senior
Spencer Ryan finished in ninth place in the 100 Free with a time of 47.41. Junior
Reef Ide won the B Final in 47.39, with junior
Jay Heymann finishing in second (47.41) and sophomore
Eric Ji in fourth (47.91).
Wu then won 200 Breast with an NCAA B time of 1:59.83. Senior
Brandon Stride followed in second place with an NCAA B time of 2:00.61. Sophomore
Joe Castagno took fifth place as he clocked in 2:03.70. Freshman
Avery Clapp followed with a win and an NCAA B time in the 200 Fly. He touched the wall in 1:48.50 to take the win. Freshman
Andrew Huang finished in fourth place with a time of 1:51.51.
Hopkins ended the invitational with fourth and sixth-place finishes in the 400 Free Relay. The team of Wu, Clapp, Ji and Ryan combined for a time of 3:06.77 for fourth. Lloyd, sophomore
Nathan Jin, freshman
Christian Mayr and Ide placed sixth in 3:08.34.
Hopkins returns to the pool on Saturday, November 19 at NYU.
