BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse coach Peter Milliman announced today that attackman Garrett Degnon, midfielder Jack Hawley and defenseman Beaudan Szuluk and  have been selected in a vote of their teammates to serve as co-captains of the team during the upcoming 2023 season.  This will be the first time any of the three has served as a captain.
 
"The selection of our team captains is always an exciting moment and I am thrilled to share that Garrett, Jack and Beaudan were selected by their teammates to lead us during the 2023 season," Milliman noted.  "Each of these three young men has earned the respect of the coaching staff and their teammates by the way they have represented our program throughout their careers and I look forward to working closely with them as we continue to build the 2023 version of the Blue Jays."
 
Degnon, a graduate student, is one of the top returning attackmen in the nation.  He led the team in goals (40) and points (47) last season; among his 40 goals during the 2022 season were five that were game-winners and four on extra-man.  In his career, Degnon has played in 38 games with 25 starts and counts 74 goals and 10 assists to his credit.  After transitioning to attack last season, he earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors and earned a spot on the 2022 Academic All-Big Ten Team as well.
 
Hawley played in a career-high nine games in 2022 and scored one goal while adding 10 ground balls and two caused turnovers.  He has primarily seen time as a wing on faceoffs during his career and has played in 19 games with one goal, one assist, 21 ground balls and two caused turnovers to his credit.
 
An Academic All-Big Ten selection in 2022, Szuluk has played in 28 games in his two seasons at Johns Hopkins after transferring to Homewood prior to the 2021 season.  He started 12 of Johns Hopkins' 16 games last season on close defense and had 28 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers to his credit.  Szuluk has started 16 of the 28 career games he's played in and has 35 ground balls and 30 caused turnovers to his credit.  Szuluk's 21 caused turnovers in 2022 are tied for the second-highest single-season total in school history, while his 30 career CTs rank 10^th.
 
Johns Hopkins will open the 2023 season on Saturday, February 4 when the Blue Jays travel to Jacksonville for their second all-time meeting Dolphins.
