BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins Blue Jays have swept the Centennial Conference Women's Track & Field awards it was announced earlier today.
Alex Ross was named Centennial Track Athlete of the Week while
Annie Gutierrez earned Centennial Field Athlete honors.
This is the seventh Centennial Athlete of the Week honor for Gutierrez and second for Ross. Competing at the Patriot Games at George Mason this past weekend, the duo stood out among strong fields. Ross, competing in the 5,000, jumped into the top-five nationally at the DIII level. Her time of 16:52.23 currently sits her in second in the country. Ross' time is good for fifth in JHU program history in one of the Jays' strongest events historically. Gutierrez won the pentathlon with her second-highest total of her career and also produced a strong mark in the pole vault. The graduate from Coral Gables, FL, totaled 3,396 points with her best score of the event coming via the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.91 seconds. She also hit a 3.62m pole vault, her third-best indoor mark.
The Blue Jays are set to compete at the NYC Armory in the DIII Invitational on Friday.
