Baran & Phillips Take Down School Records To Lead Blue Jays In Boston

Meet Information
• Meet: Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invite
• Location: BU Tennis & Track Center | Boston, MA
• Date: Friday, February 12th

Multiple school records fell and the Blue Jays posted 10 marks that would place in the top-20 in Division III this season. Ella Baran was once again a star as she posted the fastest DIII 3,000 ever run on a 200m track. Baran's time of 9:13.32 is the third-fastest in Division III history and is recognized by the USTFCCCA as the national record due to track qualifications. Baran shatters Felicia Koerner's program-record time of 9:24.34 set back in 2017. Baran will be a top-seed for NCAA's in both the mile and the 3,000 after setting the DIII mile record last weekend in New York. Baran's time is the fifth-sub 9:55 minute 3,000 mark for the Blue Jays this season.

Meet Highlights

  • Freshman Lauren Phillips joined Baran in breaking a program-record in Boston on Friday. Phillips sprinted to a 200m time of 25.70, setting both the freshman and program indoor records. Phillips breaks Maya Hammonds record of 26.06 set in 2019. Phillips' time is good for 10th at the Division III level thus far. The 200 wasn't Phillips' only successful event today as the young star broke the freshman indoor record in the 400m with a time of 58.24. That time is good for 13th in DIII and is the fourth-fastest time in program history. Megan McDonald holds the top three times, including the record of 57.34.
  • Annie Gutierrez set a new personal best mark in the long jump, placing fifth with a 5.60m leap. Gutierrez came into the event at #17 in Division III with a 5.53m leap. At 5.60m, Gutierrez moves up to 13th among DIII competitors. Her mark is the sixth-best in program history and is the best mark held by anyone not named Maya Hammonds. Gutierrez competed in three events and posted top-20 DIII marks in all three. Currently third in DIII in the 60 hurdles, Gutierrez timed out at 8.95 today which would still be a top-20 mark. She also ran a personal best time in the 400, making her one of four Blue Jays to go sub-59 seconds today. Gutierrez crossed the finish line in 58.67, good for the eighth-fastest time in program history and the 17th-best in DIII this year.
  • Freshman Annie Huang continues to impress in her inaugural campaign. After setting a freshman record earlier this season, Huang posted a top-15 time nationallty in the 800. The freshman crossed the finish line in 2:16.00, placing her 10th all-time in JHU history on a leader board filled with JHU top performers.
  • Joining Phillips and Gutierrez with great efforts in the 400 today were Ashley Tyburski and Kaitlin Bonney. Tyburski nabbed the seventh-fastest time in program history, finishing just ahead of Gutierrez with a time of 58.60. Tyburski's time is good for 16th in DIII. Bonney was the fourth Blue Jay to go under one minute in the 400 with a time of 59.67, but she was even better in the 4x400 relay. Bonney ran the anchor leg in 58.21 for the Jays. Bonney also had a top-10 mark in school history in the 200, finishing at 26.33.
  • Victoria Kadiri continues to be a star for the Blue Jays, posting two top-20 national marks and running another strong 60m time. Kadiri improved on her PR in the indoor long jump with a 5.52m leap. Kadiri is in ninth-place on the Blue Jay all-time list and sits in 19th among DIII competition. In the 200, Kadiri also would've broken Hammonds school record with Phillips. Kadiri finished in 26.05 to grab a top-20 mark in DIII.
  • Sophie NIlsson improved on her personal best long jump mark which already stood as the third-best in JHU history. Nilsson hit an 11.38m leap, moving into 23rd nationally this season.
