Winston-Salem, NC - Blue Jay junior distance runner
Matthew Kleiman will compete in the mile finals tomorrow after a fanastic trial performance in one of the fastest mile years in recent memory. Kleiman battled all season long, running three sub-4:10 mile times before finally securing his spot at NCAA's last weekend at Tufts. Kleiman took full advantage today, running a fourth sub-4:10 time to qualify fifth for tomorrow's mile final. Kleiman crossed the finish line in 4:09.35, placing third in his heat.
The Best Of The Rest
- After getting a late qualification nod thanks to a dropout, Daniel Chen placed 18th in the prelims with a time of 4:17.92. Chen joined Kleiman in qualifying last weekend at Tufts and didn't find out he would be competing until Tuesday this week after the initial list came out Sunday night.
- With three events remaining tomorrow, Justin Canedy currently sits in 17th in the men's heptathlon with 2,423 points. Battling injuries as of late, Canedy fought through to give it a go this weekend. The Medina, OH product opened up the day with a 7.46 second 60m dash, placing 17th in the event. Canedy followed it up with a 5.62m long jump before placing 10th with a 11.44m shot put to place 10th in the event. Canedy finished the day with a 1.79m high jump, tying for 12th in the event. Canedy pulled out of Friday night's long jump event.
