Kleiman Earns All-American Honors For JHU

Winston Salem, NC – Matthew Kleiman earned All-America honors for the first time in his career, capping off an outstanding indoor season in the mile. Kleiman battled all year long to earn a chance to compete at NCAA's. Kleiman responded by qualifying in yesterday's trials and then came back today with the fastest mile in Johns Hopkins history to place sixth and be named an All-American. Seven of the 10 finalists ripped of sub-4:10 minute miles, including Kleiman's time of 4:07.84 to place sixth. Both Aidan Ryan of Williams and Tucker Cargile of Redlands broke the Championship record.

JHU sophomore Gavin McElhennon placed 15th in the 3000, finishing with a time of 8:29.73 in his first ever NCAA Championship.
Kleiman's efforts earned three points for Hopkins, tying them for 52nd at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

"I am so proud of each and every student-athlete both here competing and back home for all the work they put in this year," Van Allen added. "They have created such an amazing team culture that really drives all the success. It all makes for a very memorable weekend and just makes me so proud of these teams and programs."
