Chen Brings Home SIlver; 800 Free Relay Grabs Bronze

The Basics
• Location: Indianapolis, IN • IUPUI IU Natatorium
• The Short Story: Senior Max Chen and the 800 Free Relay team grabbed top-three finishes to lead the Johns Hopkins men's swim team on day three of the NCAA Championships. The Blue Jays sit in third place with 248 points, just nine points behind second-place Denison.
 
200 Fly
Senior Jeff Vitek grabbed fifth in the championship final of the 200 Fly as he clocked in with a 1:46:89 - the third fastest time in program history. It is the best finish by a Blue Jay in the event since Sean Kim finished third in 2005. Vitek has now earned All-America honors in the 200 Fly in each of his four seasons.
 
100 Breast
Hopkins picked up 32 points in the 100 Breast with three finalists. Chen took home his second runner-up finish of the championships. He turned in the third fastest time in program history as he touched in 53.20 for second place. This is his third straight All-America honor in the 100 Breast.
 
Junior Kyle Wu swam a 54.30 to finish in sixth place in the championship final. Junior Brandon Stride finished in seventh place in the consolation final with a time of 55.22. His prelim swim of 55.08 is a career best.
 
800 Free Relay
Hopkins finished up the night with a third-place finish in the 800 Free Relay. Wu and seniors Mitchell Simmons, Collin Hughes and Noah Corbitt combined for a time of 6:32.20 – the third fastest in program history. Wu turned in a career-best 1:37.66 in the lead-off led for JHU.
 
The Blue Jays have now finished in the top three in the 800 Free Relay 13 times, with eight of those coming in the last nine championships. Hopkins has earned All-America honors in the 800 Free Relay at every NCAA Division III Championship, which began in 1975.
