• The Blue Jays opened with a sweep of the doubles to take an early 3-0 lead over the Banana Slugs. Sophomores
Daniel Ardila and
Rohan Reddy beat David Jackson and Jay Pandit, 8-3, at third doubles to earn the first point of the match. Sophomores
James and
Thomas Yu then beat Lucas Chen and Andrew Tjoa, 8-5, at first. Graduate student
Vishnu Joshi and junior
Alexander Kernagis completed the sweep with an 8-7 (6) win over Sam Hall and Praneet Varade.
• Hopkins then swept the singles, without losing a set, to complete the 9-0 win. Joshi defeated Chen 6-0, 6-4 at first singles and
Thomas Yu won 6-1, 6-2 at second over Hall. Reddy beat Tjoa 7-6 (3), 6-3 at third while
James Yu won 6-2, 6-0 at fourth over Varade. Junior
Andrew Tran beat Jackson 6-3, 6-1 at fifth and freshman
Marco Azar beat Pandit 7-6 (3), 6-4 at sixth.

How it Happened • Cal Lutheran
• The afternoon match was the same as the first, Hopkins jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles and then swept the singles without losing a set.
• The Yu brothers picked up the first point with an 8-2 win over Darvel Lossangoye and Ryan Murphy at first doubles. Senior
Ryan Hellinger and Joshi then defeated Nick Griffin and Aaron Moylan 8-5 at third. Ardila and Reddy completed the sweep with an 8-5 win over Griffin Biernat and Ben Vincze at second.
• Tran pushed the Blue Jays' lead to 4-0 with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Shawn Rothermel. Sophomore
Nick Charanjiva then clinched the win when he beat Murphy 6-3, 6-0. Senior
Brian Wang lost just one game in his win over Vincze at fourth.

Eric Burrer then defeated Griffin 6-2, 6-2 at fourth to put JHU up 7-0.
Thomas Yu followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Lossangoye and Joshi wrapped up the win with a 7-6 (2), 6-3 win at second over Biernat. Â

What it Means
• Monday's matches were Hopkins' first against UC Santa Cruz and Cal Lutheran.
• Hopkins is 5-0 to start the season for the second straight season and 10
th time in program history.
• Head coach
Brendan Kincaid is the first coach in program history to win his first five matches with the Blue Jays. Â
• Joshi is tied for 11
th in program history with 49 career singles wins.
