Meet Highlights
In the final meet of the regular season, 11 Blue Jays made the trip to Tufts looking to solidify their qualification at the upcoming NCAA Indoor Track and Field championships.
The men's mile kicked things off with Hopkins juniors
Matthew Kleiman and
Daniel Chen going 1-2. Kleiman moved up over 14 spots, now sitting at #10 on the final performance list with a time of 4:09.52. Chen finished just two seconds back at 4:11.82. Kleiman sat on the pacer for the first 1000m at 2:35 before taking a lead he would never relinquish.
Arthur Beyer and
Bryce Thalheimer would finish at 4:17 and 4:18 respectively.
In the women's 3,000,
Diana Vizza and
Sydney Friedel had a similar game plan, sitting on the pacer for the first mile before making their moves. Coming through the mile at 5:17, they both picked up the pace to set new season bests, and solidify their spot at Nationals. The two locking up spots gives Hopkins six individual qualifiers in the 3000m, the most of any one team in any one event at the NCAA Championships.
Gavin McElhennon followed the women's 3,000 with a dominating performance of his own, hitting the first mile in 4:25 before picking up the pace and closing with a 63 second last 400m to break his own school record with a time of 8:18.26. He moved up over 15 spots on the National list to #14 overall.
The women's 4x400m relay team would close out the day with their best performance of the year, recording the fastest Hopkins 4x400m relay time ever on a flat track.

Lauren Phillips,
Anna Zaeske all would run 59 second relay splits before handing off to
Ashley Tyburski who crushed her fastest ever time of 57.1 over the final 400m to earn the team a third-place finish. The time of 3:55.87 now ranks 15
th in the nation, they will await the NCAA selections tomorrow to see if they also earned a spot in the upcoming NCAA Championships as the top 12 declared relays will qualify.

This now gives Hopkins a total of 14 athletes qualified for NCAA's while they await a few potential selections tomorrow. The NCAA Championships will kick off Friday, March 11
th in Winston Salem, NC
