BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins men's soccer team will travel to Middlebury, VT for the NCAA First and Second Rounds this weekend. Hopkins will take on Babson (11-3-7) in Saturday's first round match-up at South Street Field.
Host and third-ranked Middlebury will take on Western New England (6-6-7) in the other first-round match. Saturday's winners will meet on Sunday for a right to go to the NCAA Sweet 16.
Hopkins is making its sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and 20
th overall. JHU is 22-17-8 all-time in the tournament and advanced to the quarterfinals in 2022. The Blue Jays have faced five teams in this year's tournament field and went 4-1-0 in those games.
JHU earned the automatic bid to the tournament after winning its 10
th Centennial Conference Championship, 1-0, at Muhlenberg on Sunday. Babson earned an at-large bid after losing in a shootout to WPI in the NEWMAC Final.
Saturday's game will be the first-ever meeting between Hopkins and Babson. JHU has also never faced Middlebury in men's soccer. JHU's only meeting with Western New England came in 2006, when the Blue Jays won 3-0 in the NCAA Sweet 16.
Middlebury grabbed an at-large berth after suffering its first loss of the season in the NESCAC Semifinals to Tufts. Western New England captured its first Commonwealth Coast Conference title since 2016 to earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
