BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins men's soccer team placed seven players on the 2023 All-Centennial Conference teams it was announced today. The seven selections are tied for the most in the conference.
Graduate student
Griffin Meyer leads the way with first team honors, while seniors
Francis Meyer and
Logan Falzarano and junior
Ian Whamond earned second team honors. Graduate students
Max Edelstein and
Ben Goodman and sophomore
Will Andrus were named honorable mention.
Griffin Meyer leads Hopkins and ranks second in the Centennial Conference with 12 goals. His 12 goals are the most in a season by a Blue Jay since
Achim Younker scored 17 in 2017. Earlier this season, he scored a goal in six straight games, tied for the fourth longest streak in program history.
Griffin Meyer also ranks third in the conference with 26 points.
Francis Meyer earns all-conference for the second straight year after garnering first team honors a season ago. The anchor of the Blue Jays' midfield, he's started 19 games and totaled four points on one goal and two assists this season. Falzarano garners all-conference honors for the second time in his career after earning second team honors in 2021. He's started all 20 games on defense and has also totaled four points (1g, 2a). He scored the game-winner at Muhlenberg in the Centennial Conference Championship to earn tournament MVP honors.
Whamond earns his third all-conference honors after earning first team honors in 2021 and second team honors in 2022. He is tied for second on the team in goals and is fifth in points (7). His first goal of the season was the game-winner at the undefeated Washington College in the regular season.
Edelstein has played in all 20 games and started 13 in his first season with the Blue Jays. He leads the team and is tied for third in the conference with five assists. He is also tied for second with nine points, to go with his two goals. Goodman has started all 20 games in his first season at Homewood. He ranks second on the team in assists (4) and is tied for sixth with six points. His first goal of the season came at the best time as he scored the game-winner at top-seeded Washington College in Friday's conference semifinal. Andrus returned after missing the final nine games of his freshman season with an injury to start 19 games on defense. He has totaled four points (1g, 2a) this season. He scored his first career goal, the game-winner, in JHU's win over Hobart.
