STATEN ISLAND, NY – The Johns Hopkins men's track & field team headed north to take part in the Gotham Cup Friday afternoon, with the Distance Medley Relay team capping off day full of top-10 finished with the program's lone win.
First to compete on the day were Joshua Lee and
Spencer Ye in the 400-meter sprint. Both running in the second heat, the pair finished within just over one-tenth of a second of one another, with Lee claiming 12
th with a time of 51.02 while Ye crossed the line in 51.16 to take 13
th.
The Blue Jays got their first pair of top-five finishers in
Charles Teeter and
Rowan Cassidy in the mile. Once again crossing the line at nearly identical times, Teeter took home fourth with a final time of 4:18.31 while Cassidy finished just behind in 5
th in 4:18.44. Also earning a top-15 finish was
Valdis Slokenbergs, who took 15
th after crossing the line in 4:27.41.
In the 1000-meter it was Zach Martin finishing 13
th with a time of 2:33.87 before
Aiden Deffner finished closed behind in 19
th, crossing the line in 2:39.69. Rounding out the mid-distance was
Fisayo Omonije, who finished the 800-meter in 7
th with a time of 1:57.74.
Next up for Hopkins was the 3K, where
Jonas Larson and
Thomas Li each earned top-10 finishes. Larson was the first to cross the line in 6
th with a time of 8:39.19 before Li's 8:40.33 final time earned him 8
th.
The Jays ended the day on their highest note, with a quartet of
Alex Colletti, Ye, Lee and
Raymond Zhang finished 5
th in the 4x800 with a time of 8:34.69 before Martin, Omonije, Deffner and
Connor Oiler combined to win the Distance Medley Relay by over 20 seconds, crossing the line in 10:24.09.
Next up for Hopkins is the Robert Comstock Cardinal Invitational Saturday, Jan. 20.
