STATEN ISLAND, NY – The Johns Hopkins women's track & field team took home a trio of first-place finishes at the Gotham Cup Friday afternoon, including winning both relays in which they competed.
Friday's track events began with the 5K, in which
Cameron Coletti earned a top-10 finish crossing the line in 9
th with a time of 19:29.64. Coming in just behind the freshman in 11
th was
Natalie Boquist, who finished the race in 19:51.80 to take 11
th.
Lauren Phillips had another strong day in the sprints, starting with a third-place finish in the 60-meter with a time of 7.75 before finishing the 400-meter in 58.07 — the 12th fastest time in the country thus far — to finish 5
th. Also earning top-20 finishes in the 400 were
Lianne Saussy (13
th – 1:00.27) and
Lorna Arcese (17
th – 1:00.84).
The top-20 finishes carried into the mile, with
Mackenzie Setton leading the way with a second-place finish, crossing the line in 5:01.09 — a time that also ranks seventh in the nation. Finishing behind the sophomore were
Anna Warmack and
Eleni Alvarez, who finished in 13
th and 17
th with times of 5:20.59 and 5:27.75 respectively.
Emma Kothari earned herself a top-10 finish in the 1000-meter, crossing the line in 9
th with a time of 3:04.74 with
Lily Tremba (13
th – 3:06.33) and
Lily Sheth (3:07.15) finishing just behind her. The day's mid-distance events concluded with the 800, in which
Annie Huang took first with a time of 2:13.83 to give the Blue Jays their first win on the day. The junior's time marks the second-fastest finish in program history and ranks her fourth nationally.
Hopkins claimed six spots in the top-15 in Friday's 3K, led by
Adriana Catalano's third-place finish with a time of 10:14.96. Also finishing in the top-10 were
Isabella Stenhouse and
Amelia Giles, who finished in 6
th and 8
th with times of 10:40.50 and 10:50.99 respectively, with
Isabella Tasser (13
th – 11:58.29) and
Sofia LoVuolo (15
th – 12:33.85) rounding out the Jays' top-15 runners.
Ending their day on a high note, Hopkins dominated the afternoon's relays, starting with the 4x800 in which Arcese, Saussy, Phillips and Sheth came in first with a time of 9:40.18. The relays stayed hot in the distance medley relay (DMR) in which the Blue Jays claimed the top two spots. The quartet of Kothari, Huang, Setton and
Harrinee Senthilkumar cruised to victory with a time of 12:22.25, with Alvarez, Tremba,
Diana Valentini and
Aisling Callahan's time of 12:49.54 earning them 2nd.
Next up for Hopkins is the Robert Comstock Cardinal Classic Saturday, Jan. 20.
