Roybal Named Centennial Conference Wrestler of the Week

Senior Topped Nation's #8 Wrestler Last Week

LANCASTER, PA – Johns Hopkins senior Chris Roybal has been named the Centennial Conference Wrestler of the Week it was announced today.  Roybal earns the honor for the first time in his career after posting a 2-1 record in three Centennial Conference duals last week.

Roybal, who wrestles at 174, scored a 7-0 victory against Merchant Marine's Austin Manning, then added a 10-5 win over Muhlenberg's Anson Dewar to account for his two victories on the week.  Manning placed third at the Centennial Conference Championships last season (157), while Dewar is the reigning Centennial Conference champion at 174. Dewar entered the match ranked eighth in the nation and was unbeaten on the year prior to facing Roybal.

The 2022 Centennial Conference Championships runner-up at 157 before missing last season with an injury, Roybal boosted his season record to 7-4 and his career mark to 26-14 with his effort last week.  Exactly half of Roybal's 26 career wins have earned bonus points for the Blue Jays as he counts seven major decisions, one technical fall and five pins to his credit.

Johns Hopkins will return to action on Friday, February 2 when the Blue Jays welcome Gettysburg to Goldfarb Gymnasium for the final Centennial Conference dual meet of the season.  The Blue Jays will honor their seniors in a special pregame ceremony.
