MANHEIM, PA – The Johns Hopkins wrestling team, which will open the 2024-25 season later this week, had one individual earn a national ranking and three appear in the regional rankings as the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) released its preseason individual national and regional rankings.

Junior
Jake Hoffmann checks in at #13 in the 157-pound national rankings and is fourth in the region 3 rankings at that weight class. He is joined in the regional rankings by graduate student
Chris Roybal (4
th / 165) and junior
Jacob Pomykata (6
th / 285).

Hoffmann set Johns Hopkins' single-season records for wins (39) and wins by technical fall (13) last season. In all, 27 of his 39 victories earned bonus points and he bumped his career record to 67-27 with his performance a year ago. Hoffmann placed third at the Centennial Conference and NCAA Regional Championships as a sophomore and made his first career appearance at the NCAA Championships.

Roybal returns after finishing as the Centennial Conference runner-up at 165 pounds last season. He went on to place sixth at the NCAA Regional Championships and finished the season with a 16-8 record. He will carry a 35-19 career record into his final season with a pair of runner-up finishes at the Centennial Championships to his credit.

Pomykata played football and wrestled during his first two years at Johns Hopkins, but has devoted his full attention to wrestling this year. After joining the wrestling team at the conclusion of football season a year ago, he posted a 10-13 record and is 24-26 in his career with seven pins, three major decisions and one technical fall to his credit.

Johns Hopkins will open the season at the Messiah Invitational on Saturday, November 2.
