Stadler, Pimental, Difalco Pace Blue Jays at Racich Rumble

Freshman Stadler Places Fourth, Jays Accumulate 19 Bonus-Point Wins

COLLEGEVILLE, PA – The Johns Hopkins wrestling team got a fourth-place finish from freshman 125-pounder Duncan Stadler to lead the way for the Blue Jays at the Racich Rumble at Ursinus College on Saturday.  The Blue Jays finished with 53 points to place 11th in the 15-team tournament.
 
NYU grabbed the team title with 158.5 points and was followed by Washington & Lee (128.5 points ), Messiah (119), WPI (95.5) and Elizabethtown (88) rounded out the top five in the final team scoring.

Stadler, who finished 3-2 on the day, opened his run with as 12-8 win over Mike Adams of Ursinus and pinned NYU's Thomas Fischer (6:02) to move into the quarterfinals.  There, he scored a major decision of W&L's David Rubin (11-2) to advance to the semifinals.  He then fell to WPI's Tanner Thatcher by fall and dropped the third-place match to Alex Diaz (unattached).
 
In addition to Stadler, the Blue Jays had several other strong performances on the day.  Among the leaders:
 
• Sophomore Freddy Pimental (149) earned a team-best six wins on the day as he went 6-1.  Pimental split his first two matches before reeling off five consecutive wins and finished the day with three bonus-point wins (one pin, one technical fall, one major decision).  His day ended when he reached the NCAA limit on matches in one day.
 
• Freshman Giorgio Difalco (141) went 4-2 on the day with a pair of bonus-point victories (one pin, one technical fall) to his credit.
 
• Freshmen Brennan McGrann (149) and Noah O'Connor (165) both collected three wins and finished 3-2 on the day.  McGrann scored wins by technical fall, major decision and decision with his decision coming by a score of 24-21 in what is believed to be the highest scoring match in Johns Hopkins history.  O'Connor collected one win by fall and added two decisions to account for his three victories.
 
• Fritz Maurath, John Libby and Noah Graber all went 2-2 and all six of their combined victories came by fall, including four in the first period.
 
Notes:  The Blue Jays had 13 individuals entered in the tournament today and those 13 accumulated 29 individual wins, including 10 pins, five major decisions and four technical falls.
 
What's Next
The Blue Jays will return to action on Saturday, November 16, when they travel to Shenandoah to participate in the Shenandoah Invitational.
