STATEN ISLAND, NY – The Johns Hopkins women's track and field team wrapped up its weekend at the Big Apple Invitational Saturday afternoon, with several individuals setting personal-best times, highlighted by
Erika Ezumba setting a new program record in the weight throw.
Chloe Zhang was the first top-10 finisher of the afternoon, taking seventh in the 60-meter sprint with a time of 7.94. Competing in a separate division,
Ellie Lewis and
Claire Wang finished 23
rd and 28
th with times of 8.36 and 8.41 respectively.
In the mile it was
Eleni Alvarez earning the highest finish of the day by a Blue Jay, claiming second with a time of 5:08.70 to set a new PR and rank sixth in the Centennial Conference. Also finishing in the top-10 were
Lily Tremba and
Isis Diaz, who crossed the line in 5:16.09 and 5:18.11 to secure fifth and ninth.
Ryan Bigelow and
Emily Chen grabbed PRs in the 400-meter, finishing in 34
th and 39
th with times of 1:02.82 and 1:03.24 respectively, while in the 800 it was
Diana Valentini finishing fourth after crossing the line in 2:20.15. The freshman's time was a personal-best and ranks fifth in the Centennial.
Concluding the day's track events was the 3000, in which
Isabella Stenhouse finished 19
th with a personal-best time of 10:38.87.
Jamie Stelnik also secured a top-25 finish, with her final time of 10:47.31 earning the junior 25
th.
Saturday's field events started with the high jump, with
Abigail Lovelace and
Victoria Kadiri tying in 16
th place with heights of 1.50 meters. In the long jump Kadiri grabbed her highest finish of the afternoon, coming in second with a leap of 5.67 meters. Just missing out on the top-20 was Zhang, who came in 21
st after clearing 5.10 meters.
Sara Bartlett was the top-placing Blue Jay in the triple jump, clearing 11.80 meters — a new personal-best — to finish third, followed closely behind by Kadiri's fourth-place jump of 11.77 meters.
Ezumba ended the evening on a high note, finishing sixth in the shot put with a throw of 12.35 meters before setting a new program record in the weight throw, clearing 13.91 meters to finish 14
th. The latter mark ranks fourth in the Centennial.
Hopkins returns to action next Saturday, Feb. 17 to compete in the Keogh Invitational.
