Gana and Zheng Earn Bids to NCAA Fencing Championship

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Johns Hopkins junior Alan Zheng and sophomore Jorge Gana have been selected to the NCAA Fencing Championship it was announced today.
 
Ohio State will host the championships at French Field House in Columbus, OH, March 21-24, 2024. The Championships include individual events in each of six weapons (men's épée, men's foil, men's sabre, women's épée, women's foil and women's sabre).
 
Fencers will compete in a round-robin format of five-touch bouts. After round robin, the top-four finishers in each weapon will fence in semifinal 15-touch bouts, with winners fencing to determine first and second places, and non-advancing fencers being awarded a tie for third place.
 
Gana finished seventh at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional and enters the national championship with a 79-26 record this season in the Epee. He is the 25th Blue Jay Epeeist to earn a bid to the NCAA Championship and the first since Tiger Gao in 2018. For his career, Gana boasts a record of 174-74 and ranks 12th in program history in career Epee wins.
 
Zheng took ninth place in the Foil at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Championship and sports an 80-35 record this season. He is the 26th Blue Jay Foilist to grab a spot in the NCAA Championship and the first since David Ferguson in 2007. Zheng is 251-136 for his career and ranks sixth in program history in career Foil wins.
 
The men's Epee begins at 9:00 am on Saturday, March 23 with the men's Foil set to begin at 11:00 am.
