LA CROSSE, WI – Johns Hopkins sophomore
Jake Hoffmann (157) had his post-season run come to an end on Friday afternoon at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships as he dropped a pair of matches in the opening session. Hoffmann ends the season with a record of 39-12.

In his opening match, Hoffmann drew John Carroll's Patrick McGraw and jumped to an early 3-0 lead on a takedown just under a minute into the bout. McGraw then worked a quick escape and added a takedown and two sets of nearfall points (7 total) before the end of the first period to grab an 11-3 lead. He added another takedown in the second period, two back points in the third and a riding time point to fuel a 17-3 victory.

In what proved to be his final bout, Hoffmann fell to Tim Smith of Wabash, 11-1. Smith used three takedowns, an escape and a point of riding time to account for his 11 points, while Hoffmann nabbed a point with a second-period escape.

Despite the two losses, Hoffmann ends the season with a school-record 39 victories and his 67 wins thus far are the most ever for a Johns Hopkins wrestler by the end of their sophomore season. He became the 27
th Blue Jay wrestler to qualify for the NCAA Championships with his appearance this season; 25 of the 27 have come under the direction of current head coach
