Clapp Breaks School Record, Takes Bronze in 200 Fly at NCAAs

GREENSBORO, NC – Sophomore Avery Clapp broke his own school record and earned his first career top-three finish at the NCAA Championships Friday night. The Blue Jays sit in 15th place with 70 points through three days at the championships.

Clapp kicked off the night with his record-breaking swim. He shaved 1.97 seconds off this prelim time to break his own school record by nearly one second (0.98 seconds). He clocked in at 1:44.56 to claim third place and this 11th career All-America honor. Clapp owns the five fastest times in the 200 Fly in program history.

The Blue Jays then took 12th place in the 800 Free Relay. The team of sophomore Bryce Lloyd, seniors Kellen Roddy and Jay Heymann and Clapp finished in 6:37.20. The group earns Second Team All-America honors as JHU has now produced an All-America team in the event every year since the championship's inception in 1975. Lloyd has earned All-America honors twice at this year's championship and three times in his career. Roddy earns his seventh career All-America honor and Heymann now has six to his credit.

The NCAA Championships wrap up on Saturday at 10:00 am with the prelims of the 100 Free. The finals are scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm.
