LEWISBURG, PA – Several members of the Johns Hopkins men's track & field team enjoyed career days at this weekend's Bison Outdoor Classic, with the Blue Jays combining to break 19 personal records in a variety of events.
James Reilly is the owner of six new personal bests after finishing sixth in the decathlon on Day 1 of the three-day meet. The senior set new high-water marks in the 100 (11.18), long jump (6.34 meters), shot put (10.91), 400 (53.33) and pole vault (3.85) en route to a career-high 5765 points.
Records continued to fall in the 5000 where
Emmanuel Leblond was the top-finishing Hopkins athlete with a personal-best time of 14:26.11, with
Kenny Wanlass crossing the line just behind in 14:29.38 in his first 5k of the season to set the freshman record. Also setting career bests in the event were
Connor Oiler (14:35.39) and
Matthew Sandifer (14:56.03).
Gavin McElhennon was next to set a new best time in the 10,000, finishing in 29:49.28.
Matthew Kelly (30:19.48) and
Sean Enright (31:40.08) also secured the fastest finishes of their respective careers, while
Charles Teeter (30:41.72) and
Jonas Larson (30:52.40) ran the event for the first time in the outdoor season.
There was a short break in action on the track for the triple jump in which
Oluwademilade Adeniran earned himself a PR after clearing 14.04 meters, before Hopkins continued its afternoon with mid-distance and sprint events.
Evan Kelly and
Zachary Martin both finished with personal bests in the 800, tying with a time of 1:54.99 before Omonije — who was the top-placing Blue Jay in the 800 after crossing the line in 1:54.01 — set a new high-water mark in the 400 with a time of 49.75.
Alex Colletti also broke his previous record in the 400, crossing the line in 50.16, with
Spencer Ye's 50.76 serving as his first recorded time of the year.
The weekend's track events came to a close in the 100 in which
James Borkman's 11.28 led the way and tied his fastest time set earlier this year. Coming in just behind the freshman with new best finishes were
Chance Simpson (11.36) and
Zachary Roney (11.38) to bring the Blue Jays' weekend total to 19.
Hopkins returns next weekend to compete in the Hopkins/Loyola Invitational Friday and Saturday.
