Box Score HAVERFORD, PA – Seventh-ranked Johns Hopkins beat host Haverford, 6-3, in Centennial Conference action Sunday. The Blue Jays win their fourth straight as they improve to 12-4 overall and 6-0 in the conference. The Fords fall to 7-5 overall and 4-1, as they suffer their first conference loss of the season.
Hopkins grabbed a 2-0 lead with wins at number two and three doubles before Haverford got on the board.
Sydney Langer and
Kamila Wong picked up the first point of the match when they beat Emily Oh and Mary Lavin, 8-3.
Ashley Chang and
Lia Melvin then defeated Rachael Fitzgerald and Abhishree Menon, 8-5. The Fords earned a point and prevented the doubles sweep when Ellie Esterowitz and Abbey Russano won 8-5 at number one.
Aubrey Zhou pushed the Blue Jays' lead to 3-1 when she beat Sriya Krishnan 6-1, 6-2 at number six singles.
Sophia Kim followed with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Russano at one.
Samantha Wang clinched the win after she beat Fitzgerald 6-1, 6-2 at four. Esterowitz made it 5-2 with a 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (6) win over Langer at two. Melvin answered with a 6-4, 6-3 win at five. Lavin closed out the match when she defeated
Jay Xiao 6-4, 7-6 (8), 1-0 (6).
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, April 20 with a pair of matches at Washington College and Mary Washington.
