PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Johns Hopkins men's track & field team sent its distance and relay teams to compete at the Penn Relays this weekend, with a first-place finish by the 4x400 team highlighting an impressive meet for the Blue Jays.
Competition kicked off Sunday with the 3000-meter steeplechase in which
Emmanuel Leblond and
Connor Oiler both had career-best outings. Leblond was the first to cross the line, finishing in 14
th with a time of 8:59.23 to break his own program record and become the first Hopkins runner to go sub-nine minutes in program history. Oiler was equally impressive in his efforts, overcoming a fall in the latter half of the race to finish 19
th with a career-best time of 9:06.96, putting both in the top 20 in Division III.
In the 5000 it was
Gavin McElhennon coming in as the highest-finishing Blue Jay with his time of 14:26.56 earning the senior 47
th. Narrowly missing out on a top-50 finish was Tommy Li, who crossed the line in 54
th with a time of 14:30.43, with
Charles Teeter (65
th – 14:47.84) rounding out Hopkins' competitors.
The Blue Jays' weekend ended with the relays in which
Spencer Ye,
Fisayo Omonije,
Alex Colletti and Zach Martin combined to finish first in the 4x400 with a time of 3:20.18.
Next up for Hopkins are the Centennial Conference Championships, with action set to begin Friday, May 3.
