Champs! Wong and Li Win ITA Southeast Doubles Title

FREDERICKSBURG, VA – Johns Hopkins junior Kamila Wong and freshman Ava Li captured the 2024 ITA Southeast Doubles title on Monday with a pair of wins. In addition, sophomore Sophia Kim finished as the runner-up in the singles draw.

Wong and Li are the second straight Blue Jay doubles team to win the ITA Southeast title and just the third overall. The pair earn ITA All-America honors and a spot in the ITA Cup next month in Rome, GA.

Wong and Li, seeded ninth in the draw, faced off against a pair of teammates in the semifinals in junior Jay Xiao and sophomore Lia Melvin. Wong and Li won the match 8-5 to grab a spot in the championship match. The pair then beat fifth-seeded Shelly Zinchenko and Anna Chow (Carnegie Mellon) 6-4, 6-2.

In the singles draw, Kim bested ninth-seeded Allie Murrell (Washington & Lee) 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the title match. She then dropped a heartbreaker to ninth-seeded Ancele Dolensek (Carnegie Mellon) 6-2, 7-6 (8). Kim is the first Blue Jay to play in the ITA Southeast singles title match since Anjie Kashyap in 2018.

The ITA Cup is scheduled for October 10-13 at the Rome Tennis Center.
