Dylan Blenkiron finished as the runners-up at the ITA Southeast Regional Championship on Sunday. Rajendra lost in the finals of the championship singles draw, while Gong and Blenkiron fell in the finals in doubles.
Rajendra, seeded ninth in the draw, opened the day with a 6-0, 7-6 (6) upset win over second-seeded Raghav Jangbahadur (CMU). He then fell to third-seeded Alex Feies (CMU) 6-3, 6-0 in the title match. Rajendra earns a bid to the ITA Cup with his finals' appearance.
Blenkiron and Gong were seeded ninth in the doubles draw and opened the day with a hard-fought 8-7 (5) win over fourth-seeded Max Lindstrom and Michael Melnikov (SC) in the semifinals. The pair then lost to fifth-seeded Evan Fisher and Brock Ladehoff (UMW), 8-5, in the finals. Despite the loss, Blenkiron and Gong earn a bid to the ITA Cup and will join Rajendra in Rome, GA.
This marks the 13
th time that Hopkins has had a player in the singles final at ITAs and the 11
th time that a Blue Jay doubles team has played in the final.
The ITA Cup is scheduled for October 10-13 at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, GA.
