CLAREMONT, CA – Johns Hopkins fell to seventh-ranked Bowdoin, 7-0, in the opening round of the Stag-Hen Invitational Friday. The Blue Jays drop to 5-3 on the season while the Polar Bears improve to 6-1.
Mark Kneiss and Jackson Codd won 6-2 over
Allen Gong and
Chakor Rajendra at one doubles. Kiran Garapati and Simon Catanzaro, ranked 20
th in the nation, won by the same score versus
Mukundh Boopathi and
Joshua Kim at two. Aden Dorros and Mick Tamas closed out doubles with a 6-3 win over
Pranav Gadiraju and
Dylan Blenkiron at three.
Singles saw Bowdoin take all six matches, but three of the six went the full three sets. Kneiss, ranked fifth in the nation, won 7-6, 6-1 over Gong at one singles. Garapati, ranked 27
th, took a three-setter over Rajendra at two 6-7, 6-2, 6-4. At three, Codd also won in three sets, beating Blenkiron 6-3, 6-7, 6-2.
Cameron Zia took a 6-2, 6-1 win over Boopathi at four singles. Catanzaro won 6-1, 6-1 over
Jason Li at five. Mendelsohn, ranked 33
rd, rallied for a three-set win (3-6, 6-1, 7-5) over Kim at six.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, March 21 as the Blue Jays face the 14
th-ranked Trinity (TX) Tigers.
