Ava Li led the Blue Jays as she advanced to the finals of the B singles draw. Senior
Zoe Hsieh and sophomore
Aubrey Zhou advanced to the semifinals in their respective draws.
Li began her career with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Natalie Kim (Mary Washington) and then beat Kate Lee (Navy) 6-2, 6-2 to move onto the semifinals. She earned a three-set win over Grace Li (Navy) 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (5) to advance. Her run ended in the finals with a tough 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (4) loss to Makaila Cheng (Navy).
Hsieh won her first match 6-2, 6-4 over Kashish Bote (St. Bonaventure) in the round of 16 in the D draw. She then won by the same score in a quarterfinal meeting with Faith Sadgrove (Monmouth). Hsieh lost in the semifinals to Mary Bellia (Navy) 6-0, 6-1. Zhou opened the weekend with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Linda Dimitroff (Mary Washington) in the C draw. She then defeated Manci Pal (Navy) 6-2, 1-6, 1-0 (8) before losing a close 7-6 (6), 7-5 match to Emma Gu (Navy) in the semifinals.
In the A Singles Draw, sophomore
Lia Melvin won her first match 6-3, 6-3 over Cenan Liu (George Mason). She then lost to Emily Tannenbaum (Navy) 6-1, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. In the E draw, senior
Bea Manjon won her first match 6-2, 6-0 over Emily Tharpe (Mary Washington). She then fell to Lakshya Motam (George Mason) 7-6 (4), 1-6, 1-0 (8).
Also in the A draw, freshman
Sahana Sanjeev lost in the round of 16 to Alena Kubanova (Fairleigh Dickinson) 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (7). Sophomore
Sydney Langer lost her first match 7-5, 6-2 to Isabella Venter (St. Bonaventure). Sophomore
Sophia Kim dropped her round of 16 match to Namie Isago (Fairleigh Dickinson) 6-3, 6-4.
In the B draw, junior
Kamila Wong lost in the opening round to Tamara Bachmann (St. Bonaventure) by a 6-2, 6-2 score. In the C draw, junior
Jay Xiao lost 6-4, 6-3 to Noelle Talarek (George Mason) in the round of 16. Sophomore
Audrey Wijono lost her first-round match in the D draw to Brooklyn Siegel (George Mason) 6-4, 7-6 (2). Senior
Catharina Ausfahl dropped a 6-3, 6-2 match to Katsiaryna Kostsina (Fairleigh Dickinson) in the round of 16.
In the doubles draws, four Blue Jay teams advanced to the semifinals. In the A draw, Langer and Melvin had a first-round bye and then beat Natalia Aruj and Maria Pereira (Binghamton) 6-4. The pair lost to Tannebaum and Olivia Fermo 6-2 in the semifinals. In the B draw, Li and Wong opened with a 6-3 win over Caterina Casadei and Clara Arbeloa Lopez (Binghamton). They won by the same score over Gu and Anna Jordaan in the quarterfinals and then lost to Paige Massey and Maya Boyat (George Mason) 6-4.
Also in the B draw, Zhou and Sanjeev opened with a bye in the round of 16. The pair then won 7-5 over Veda Prapuna and Maitree Rout (George Mason). Zhou and Sanjeeve lost in the semifinals to Li and Mackenzie Lee 6-4. In the C draw, Ausfahl and Wijono opened with a 6-2 win over Valeria Gonzalez and Julia Pedraza Palacios (Binghamton). They then beat Motam and Talarek 6-4 in the quarterfinals. Ausfahl and Wijono lost in the semifinals to Bellia and Sylvia Eklund 6-2.
In the A draw, Kim and Xiao won their first match 6-3 over Nitya Vyas and Kayla Castellano (Binghamton). The duo then lost to Addison Felts and Natalie Kim (Mary Washington) 7-5. And in the C draw, Manjon and Hsieh had a first round-bye and then fell to Pal and Cheng 6-4 in the quarterfinals.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, September 21 at the ITA Southeast Regional Championship.
