BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins grabbed six wins and 12 second place finishes as the Blue Jays beat the host Washington & Lee Generals, 128-115. It was JHU's first competition in five weeks.
Hopkins opened with second and third place finishes in the 200 Medley Relay.
Aden Li,
Jonathan Wang,
Avery Clapp and
Jay Heymann took second place in 1:32.88.
Dylan Jewett,
Adam Sandid,
Rad Couture and
Christian Mayr finished in 1:33.99 for third.
Jack Cornish earned the Blue Jays' first win of the day as he swam a 9:51.51 in the 1000 Free.
Jonik Surprenant (9:55.50) and
Bryce Lloyd (10:14.54) helped JHU complete a sweep of the top three spots.
Daniel Byrnes led the Blue Jays in the 200 Free with a third-place finish in 1:44.20, while
Josiah March took fourth in 1:44.84. Clapp and Jewett then went one-two in the 100 Back, finishing in 51.12 and 52.19, respectively. Sandid led a trio of Blue Jays that took second through fourth in the 100 Breast. Sandid clocked in at 58.78, followed by
Joe Castagno (59.98) and
Mitchell List (1:00.22).
LI and Couture then finished one, two in the 200 Fly. Liu touched in 1:54.47 and Couture finished in 1:55.88. Mayr placed second in the 50 Free with a swim of 21.52, while Wang clocked in at 21.65 for third.
Larkin Helman took second place in the 100 Free in 46.90 and Sandid placed fourth in 47.39.
Lloyd led a sweep of the 200 Back as he took the top spot in 1:52.64. March and
Matthew Hartshorn tied for second placed as they each touched in 1:56.04. Castagno and
Julian Maycock raced to first and second place finishes in the 200 Breast. Castagno beat Maycock to the wall by just six-hundredths of a second (2:09.16).
Byrnes finished in second place in the 500 Free with a time of 4:48.08, while Clapp finished in 4:49.00 for third place. Heymann took third place in the 100 Fly in 52.70 and Surprenant took fourth in 52.92. Li then led a trio of Blue Jays to finish second through fourth in the 200 IM. He led the way with a swim of 1:55.46, followed by Hartshorn (1:55.86) and
Will Dunlap (1:58.15). Hopkins closed out the day with a win and third place finish in the 200 Free Relay. Heymann, Sandid, Wang and Clapp took the win in 1:24.76. Mayr, Couture, Helman and Lloyd finished in third in 1:25.88.
Hopkins is back in action on Tuesday, January 14 as JHU hosts Gettysburg. The meet is set for a 1:00 pm start at the Newton White Aquatic Center.
