BALTIMORE, MD – On Senior Day, second-ranked Johns Hopkins closed out its regular season in commanding fashion as senior
Grace Waldeck netted a pair of goals to lead the Blue Jays to a 6-0 shutout victory over visiting Muhlenberg Saturday afternoon. The win extends Hopkins' win streak to 16 and moves the Blue Jays to 17-1 overall and a perfect 10-0 in Centennial Conference play.
Prior to the opening whistle, Hopkins honored seniors
Zoey Bennett,
Megan Chang,
Mia Edmonds,
Cameron Thiesing and
Grace Waldeck for their outstanding contributions to the program. This senior class has combined for 49 goals, 25 assists, 123 points and 47 shutouts, guiding the Blue Jays to a 75-11 overall record, including a dominant 38-1 mark in Centennial Conference action. The group has also captured three consecutive Centennial Conference titles and made two NCAA Championship game appearances.
With emotions running high, Muhlenberg managed to keep Hopkins off the board through the first quarter. But just 33 seconds into the second period, sophomore
Deedee Golla broke the deadlock, tipping in a pass from
Megan Chang to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead they would never relinquish. Hopkins struck twice more before halftime—one from Waldeck and another from freshman
Ava Zimmerman, who tallied her first career goal to make it 3-0 heading into the break.
Hopkins continued to pour on the pressure after halftime, scoring two goals in a span of 61 seconds in the third quarter.
Caeli Robinson extended the lead with a finish off a
Jenna Halpin assist on a penalty corner, and Waldeck followed shortly after with her second goal of the afternoon, putting Hopkins comfortably ahead 5-0.
Freshman
Sienna Noh capped the scoring early in the fourth quarter, redirecting a pinpoint cross from
Megan Chang into the cage for her first collegiate goal, sealing the 6-0 victory.
Aubrey Kilgore and
Jessica Lapidus combined for the shutout, facing just two shots and one on goal. The Blue Jays dominated statistically, outshooting Muhlenberg 13-2 and holding a 12-5 advantage in penalty corners.
The win also marked a milestone for head coach
Jane Wells, who recorded her 150th victory at Johns Hopkins.
The Blue Jays now turn their attention to the Centennial Conference Tournament, where they'll host a semifinal matchup on Thursday, November 6, against the lowest remaining seed from the opening round between Ursinus, Dickinson, Haverford and Swarthmore.
