Hopkins Cruises to Victory Over Mount St. Mary’s

BALTIMORE, MD – In the first ever meet in the newly renovated Barbara & Jerry Procton Pool, Johns Hopkins won all 14 events en route to a 211-38 victory over Mount St. Mary's Saturday afternoon, improving to 4-0 to start the season.
 
Hopkins kicked off the meet with a win in the 200 Medley Relay. Aden Li, Jonathan Wang, Avery Clapp and Michael Ivanov combined for a swim of 1:31.61 to win by more than 3 seconds. The team of Dylan Jewett, Justin Ely, Kai Henrikson-Brandt and Christian Mayr finished right behind first with a time of 1:34.80.
 
Josiah March then grabbed a win in the 1000 Free, narrowly beating teammate Matthew Hartshorn to the wall. March clocked in at 10:02.16 and Hartshorn touched in 10:02.72. The Blue Jays then claimed the top two spots in the 200 Free, led by Larkin Helman who touched in 1:42.30 with Li right behind, finishing two tenths of a second later (1:42.52) to claim second.
 
Jewett added an individual win as he took the top spot in the 100 Back in 50.61. Henrikson-Brandt (51.64) and Nicholas Lee (54.48) rounded out the top three. Hopkins turned in another one-two-three finish, this time in the 100 Breast. Larry Yu paced the field with his swim of 57.84, followed by Ely (59.59) and Carl Stauffer (59.94).
 
Clapp edged out teammates Julian Maycock and Alessandro Pereira in the 200 Fly to claim the individual win in 1:54.78. Maycock finished just under two seconds after (1:56.33), while Pereira rounded out the top three in 1:58.72. JHU again swept the top three spots in the 50 Free. Ivanov paced the field with a swim of 21.28, followed by Adam Sandid (21.84) and Wang (22.13).
 
Ivanov again led the Jays to a one-two-three finish in the 100 Free. He touched the wall in 46.81 to grab the top spot, followed by Mayr (47.93) and Lee (48.60). Clapp grabbed his second individual win in the 200 Back, beating out Jewett by over 2.5 seconds (1:52.70). Jewett touched in 1:55.22, as Bryce Lloyd followed behind in 1:55.56.
 
Yu completed his sweep of the Breast events as he touched the wall in 2:06.91 to win the 200. Helman followed in 2:07.86 to finish second as Willi Dunlap finished third (2:10.16). For the eighth time, Hopkins swept the top three spots in an event. Ken Ning led the Blue Jays in the 500 Free with a swim of 4:44.76. March took second (4:48.49) and Maycock finished in third (4:51.29).
 
Li grabbed his first individual win with a swim of 49.94 in the 100 Fly. Hartshorn and Pereira then went one-two in the 200 IM, with Hartshorn touching the wall first in 1:55.06, followed by Pereira in second (2:00.33).
 
Hopkins capped the afternoon with a first and third-place finish in the 200 Free Relay. Ely, Wang, Sandid and Mayr earned the win in 1:25.60. The team of Lee, Ning, Dunlap and Radomyr Couture placed third with a time of 1:27.99.
 
After the meet, head coach Scott Armstrong reflected on the milestone event, saying, "A special thank you to Mount St. Mary's for coming to the first ever competition in our newly renovated Barbara and Jerry Procton pool! One thing that is very clear is that this pool is FAST!"
 
The Blue Jays return to action on Saturday, November 8 against Georgetown.
