Second-Year Coach Honored by AFCA For First Time

WACO, TX – Dan Wodicka, the James F. Margraff Head Coach of Football at Johns Hopkins, has been named the AFCA Division III Region 2 Coach of the Year it was announced today.  Wodicka is one of five Regional Coach of the Year honorees in Division III.  The AFCA honors five coaches in each of the five combined divisions of the NCAA and the NAIA as its Regional Coaches of the Year.

Now in his second year as the head coach at Johns Hopkins, this is the first time he has been honored by the AFCA with a Regional Coach of the Year selection.  This is the sixth time a Blue Jay head coach has been honored as Margraff was selected in 2011, 2014, 2016 and 2018 and Greg Chimera was honored in 2023.

Under Wodicka's guidance, Johns Hopkins is currently 9-1 on the year and the Blue Jays are ranked 11th in the nation by the AFCA and eighth by D3football.com entering this week's NCAA Second Round Playoff game against Springfield (9-2).  The Blue Jays were ranked third in the nation from the preseason until the last poll issued by each organization after the final games of the regular season on November 15.

In two seasons as the head coach at Johns Hopkins, Wodicka has guided Johns Hopkins to a 21-3 record, including a 12-1 mark in the Centennial Conference.  The Blue Jays advanced to the NCAA Semifinals last season and earned a bye in the opening round of this year's tournament.
