COLLEGEVILLE, PA – The Johns Hopkins wrestling team got fifth-place finishes from senior
Connor Powell (165) and junior
Freddy Pimental (157) to lead the way for the Blue Jays at the Racich Rumble at Ursinus on Saturday. The Blue Jays totaled 55.5 points and placed 11
th in the 13-team tournament.

Of the Blue Jays' 16 entries in the tournament, 13 individuals won at least one match and eight of those 13 were multi-match winners. The Blue Jays also continued to pile up the bonus-point victories as they compiled nine pins, seven technical falls and three major decisions on the day.

Powell won his first three matches to move into the semifinals. He picked up two wins by fall, both of which came in the first period, including one in the quarterfinals against Stevens'
Anthony Bistany, and a decision to account for his three wins. He dropped a tight 7-5 decision to eventual runner-up
Trevor Sheehan of St. John Fisher in the semifinals and fell in the consolation semifinals by the same score.

Pimental went 4-2 on the day to earn his fifth-place showing. He opened with wins by technical fall (17-2) and decision (9-4) before slipping into the consolation bracket with a loss by decision in the quarterfinals. He then added another win by technical fall (15-0) and a win by forfeit before falling in the consolation semifinals.

Other highlights for the Blue Jays on Saturday included:

Giorgio Difalco (149) posted a 3-2 record on the day with two first-period pins to his credit to go along with a a win by technical fall.

Jacob Pomykata (285) all finished 2-2. McGrann (one major decision, one technical fall), Gordon (one pin, one technical fall), Moretz (one major decision, one technical fall) and Pomykata (two pins) collected eight bonus-wins among them.
