LANCASTER, PA – Johns Hopkins seniors
Emmanuel Leblond and
Adriana Catalano and sophomore
Clarissa Newman have been named the Centennial Conference Track and Field Athletes of the Week after delivering standout performances at Boston University's Sharon Colyear-Danville Invitational as well as the Navy Indoor Invitational. This marks the first conference honor this season for all three student-athletes.
In Boston, Leblond shattered his own school record in the 5,000m, clocking a time of 13:53.28. Not only did he improve his personal best by more than a second, but his performance also ranks as the eighth-fastest 5,000m time in Division III history. In a field featuring elite competitors from all three NCAA divisions, Leblond emerged as the fastest Division III runner to cross the finish line.
Catalano recorded a 16:34.90 in the 5,000m—a personal best, the fastest time in Centennial Conference and Johns Hopkins program history and the 25th-fastest mark in NCAA Division III history. In a field filled with top competitors from all three NCAA divisions, Catalano emerged as the fastest Division III runner to cross the finish line. Catalano's time was the best in Division III over the opening weekend of the indoor season.
At the Naval Academy, Newman posted the fourth-best pole vault mark in the nation this season at the Navy Invitational on Saturday. The sophomore recorded a top mark of 3.75 meters (12-3.5) to take fourth place in the event, finishing behind only Division I competitors from William & Mary and Navy.
Johns Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, January 17, at the Cardinal Track and Field Classic, hosted by Catholic University. The meet will be held at the Prince George's Sport & Learning Complex, with events scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
