BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins men's track and field team posted some of the fastest times in the nation Friday at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University, while also competing at the Widener Indoor Classic. Junior
Alex Colletti once again led the way for the Blue Jays, rewriting the program record book for the second consecutive week.
Colletti delivered his record-breaking performance in the 200-meter dash, clocking a personal-best 21.52 to set a new school record. He finished seventh overall in a loaded field, was the top Division III finisher and now owns the 11
th-fastest mark nationally this season.
Anthony Clark turned in a historic performance in the 5,000-meter open, recording one of the fastest times in NCAA Division III history. The freshman crossed in a personal-best 14:03.64, the fastest Division III time in the field. His mark stands as a Hopkins freshman record, ranks second in program history, second nationally this season and 20
th-fastest in Division III history.
Hopkins' distance contingent once again displayed its depth, reinforcing its position as the fourth-ranked 3,000-meter squad in the latest USTFCCCA Event Squad Rankings.
Caleb Tenney led a strong Blue Jay showing with a personal-best 8:04.55, the second-fastest time in school history and fifth nationally this season.
Emmanuel Leblond followed in 8:05.93, the seventh-fastest time nationally this year.
Brady Ott posted a personal-best 8:14.20, ranking fourth in program history and 27
th nationally, while
Olaf Dietz recorded a personal-best 8:18.18, ninth-fastest in school history and 42
nd nationally.
Cedar Nichols-Barnhart rounded out the group with a personal-best 8:21.69, the 53
rd-fastest time in Division III this season.
In the 800-meter open,
Fisayo Omonije and
Shrey Chettiar added to the national list. Omonije ran a personal-best 1:53.18, the third-fastest time in program history and 28
th nationally this season. Chettiar followed closely with a personal-best 1:53.37, ranking fourth in school history and 33
rd nationally.
Spencer Ye delivered strong performances in both the 200- and 400-meter dashes. He ran a personal-best 22.30 in the 200, the fifth-fastest time in program history. In the 400, Ye placed 25
th in a field of 114 competitors with a 49.23, which ranks 56
th nationally this season.
Josh Lee also impressed in the 400, recording a personal-best 49.81, the fourth-fastest mark in program history.
At the Widener Indoor Classic,
Ryan Braga and
Ryan Jameson led the Blue Jays in the field events. Braga placed 20
th in the weight throw with a mark of 13.87 meters (45-6.25), while Jameson finished 22
nd in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 12.92 meters (42-4.75).
Johns Hopkins returns to action Saturday, February 14, for the second day of the Widener Indoor Classic and the Tufts Cupid Challenge. Events at the Ott Center are scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m., with competition also underway in Boston at the Gantcher Family Field House.
